Alarm Clock Radio - Sonio Pro - App Review

How do you wake up in the morning? I'm not thinking about your mood but, the method you use to ensure that you get out of bed. This App allows you to use a radio station, instead of the more usual methods of generating 'noise'.

Now for the ACIDS test:

Aesthetics
You start off by giving the App access to your current position, so that it can get you the appropriate weather.

The screen now changes to a clock with a 4 day weather forecast. Tapping on the screen repeatedly dims the background, until the darkest setting when the screen springs back to its brightest setting.

You now need to press on the 'i' at the bottom right on the screen to get access to the settings. These include whether or not the alarm is on, and then (this is the differentiator for this App) pick a radio station from the list; you can also use music, nature sounds, or a 'buzzer' (sounds like the pips on an old-fashioned speaking clock). One can also personalise the background either to one of the persist, or use one of your photographs.

Cost
The App is absolutely free, and at that price you cannot complain.

Indispensability
An alarm clock of some sort is indispensable; waking up to a radio station can be a pleasant alternative to others.

Dependability
The weather forecast seems to come from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute; no doubt an august body but, perhaps, not best placed for all local weather forecasts.

It takes a while between pressing the 'i' for settings for the screen to change; not a problem as such but, you might think that something is not working.

Security
This is a self-contained App so, there are no apparent issues.

ACIDS Test Rating:

Much better than the 'standard' alarm.

  1. The app description says I can "add my own radio streams", but there is no documentation on where or how to do this. There is no documentation at all for this app, anywhere!

  2. Hi Allan
Looking at this, it seems you need to press the 'i' (bottom right)... see review for wait. Then make sure 'Radio' is selected as the sound, then 'Countries/Genres', followed by 'Country'. There are a number of national flags and each has a number of stations... admitedly, Canada isn't there.
Hope this helps and, in fairness to the developer, the App is free.
