iFont - App Review

Are you fed up with either having to type text and choose various fonts to compare, or make do with the drop down font pickers that merely have their name?

If you need alternative fonts but aren't sure which to pick, this tool could be right up your street.

Now for the ACIDS test:

Aesthetics
The home screen shows you the included 77 (that's seventy seven) included font families (some have up to a dozen variations such as Bold, Italic, Light...).

Picking any one of these fonts will give you access to a scratchpad where you can type in some text to see what it would look like, with a one button option to change the font variant. This option also gives access to the Advanced setting which displays information on the chosen font. This information contains no less than 26 parameters (more than you can shake a stick at) and includes such items as the manufacturer, trademark, copyright, and metrics.

The Settings allow you to change the default comparison text of 'Hello World' to whatever you want as the text to be displayed.

The real difference is in the Compare option. Here you select a number of fonts (just by touching the +. You can now easily compare your text directly in neat boxes and, as the individual texts can also be changed you can see how the fonts would work together.

If the 77 fonts aren't enough (or you have a particular favourite that isn't included), you can easily import it from DropBox or iCloud drive.

Cost
The App Costs a nominal $1 if you want to get rid of the (fairly discreet) adverts, otherwise, it's free.

Indispensability
This is just such an effortless way to compare fonts without cutting and pasting; much easier.

Dependability
The App works; no issues.

Security
You can send your text in your chosen font by e-mail, complete with a reference to the App (as it's free, that seems fair).
